Between my second and third pregnancy, I tried all sorts of healthy “diets.” I tried less meat/more vegetarian, paleo-ish by cutting out certain grains & most dairy, gluten-free, sprouting & fermenting, etc, etc. I played with all sorts of different thoughts on eating and continued to drive myself crazy. I was telling Spencer I was writing about this time, and he said, “Oh yeah, when you were crazy.” Haha. It’s true. I was neurotic at the time.

I finally learned that the stress of it all was way worse than whatever food I was putting in my mouth. It wan’t worth it. I wanted to set a healthy example for my children, too.

I finally settled on this – eat good, nourishing foods from trusted sources – mostly plants & quality meats with sprouted grains and organic dairy sprinkled in. Limit sugar and use carefully selected supplements to fill in the gaps.

And, as a result, my third pregnancy was my healthiest ever. I gained less weight and had my biggest baby. I didn’t retain water or have any swelling at all which was totally different than my first two pregnancies. My baby also didn’t lose her hair like my first two did. Could be a coincidence, but still fascinates me. I also had a great recovery. Overall, my third child is my healthiest to date.

I’ve never been happier and healthier. I am way less-stressed about eating and just enjoy it. I think more about a whole approach to my health including plenty of sleep, balancing my emotions, time outdoors, natural remedies, and more.
