The one and only body butter I use for myself and my kiddos simply made from skin nourishing ingredients.
For years I had really dry skin, and I lived in a really dry climate. in the winter, my skin could never get enough lotion, and no matter how much I put on, my skin was still dry.
I was soooooo tired of dry, flakey skin, so I decided try making my own body butter with simple ingredients to see if that would do that trick. After a couple too-greasy attempts, I settled on this recipe full of all natural, skin nourishing butters and oils. It works wonderfully well, and is the only body butter I’ve used for myself and my kids for the last 5 years.
And best of all, you only need a small amount. A little goes a long way with this body butter.
I make a big batch and store it in the refrigerator. I only end up making it once or twice a year.
You can add essential oils for scent and therapeutic properties, but I like to leave mine unscented for the kids. That way I can add something if I feel like it for myself or just a very little for my littles. Some of my favorite essential oils to add are Lavender for calming, Frankincense to support healthy skin, or Peppermint for a pick me up.
Natural Whipped Body Butter
1/3 cup shea butter
1/3 cup cocoa butter
1/3 cup mango butter
1/2 cup coconut oil
1/2 cup almond oil
1 Tablespoon vitamin E oil, optional
essential oils, optional
In a double boiler, gently melt shea butter, cocoa butter, mango butter, and coconut butter over low heat. Remove from heat and add almond oil, vitamin E oil, and essential oils if desired.
Let sit until oils start to solidify or place in refrigerator for about one hour.
Whip with a stand mixer or hand mixer until light and fluffy, about ten minutes. Scoop into jars. Store in a cool place or in the refrigerator until ready to use.
*I keep a jar in my bathroom and the rest in the fridge.
**If you prefer a very light moisturizer for your body, this may not be for you, and that’s ok 🙂
