We sold our home, bought a trailer and hit the road!
Earlier this year in March, Spencer and I made the decision to sell our home, buy an RV and travel around the country with our family. It was a quick decision that felt amazingly like the right thing for us to do and within a month our house was sold, and we were on the road. Six months in, and we have been to incredible places, spent time with extended family, met wonderful people, and grown closer together with our children. We are LOVING the adventure.
How It Works
We frequently get questions about how it is possible for us to travel full-time with our family. Here’s the quick version:
- For the last 5 years, Spencer has worked from home. It’s been the biggest blessing I could ever imagine for our family. He is able to spend so much more time with our three children which is a benefit that cannot be measured. Over the last several months, Spencer and I have been getting closer to splitting all parental responsibilities between work and family equally. We are both incredibly happy with this situation.
- We homeschool our kids. Last school year I made the decision to homeschool my oldest two for a totally different reason than traveling. There was no way I was ever planning on uprooting our little family and living in a trailer. But, when the time came, it was the easiest decision to commit to a second year of homeschool. I love spending time watching and facilitating daily discoveries with my littles.
- We can work from anywhere. We run a wellness business and teach people how to live a healthy, natural lifestyle through clean eating, exercise, self-care and natural remedies, including essential oils. We will never be without any of these things because we truly believe your health is the best gift you can ever give yourself and your children. As long as there are people to meet and we have good internet, business is great!
- Living with less is amazing. Getting rid of nearly everything we owned was a very freeing experience. We are constantly cleaning out and going through what we do have and deciding if we need it. Clearing the clutter from your physical space will clear mental and emotional clutter as well. Less is more.
Currently, we plan on traveling through the summer of 2017, but we never know where life will lead us. Seven months ago, I would never have planned on traveling from state to state pulling my home behind me! I prefer to live a life that is directed by how I feel about what I need to be doing and where I need to be. The possibilities are endless and can lead to anywhere. Enjoy the ride.
